Old swimming pool

It started with an old swimming pool

The history of Vodník dates back to 1908, when the old swimming pool was built. It was a few years after the devastating fire on the square in Vimperk in 1904, where the water from the Křesánovský brook was not enough to put it out and the Volyňka riverbed was too far away. On one hand, the town gained an effective tool for fighting fires; on the other, a swimming pool where boats were once used.

20th century

In the pre-war period, during the First Republic, and also after World War II, the site served as a public bathing area. Unfortunately, without further investment, the place gradually fell into disrepair, and the only revival was the Youth Meeting in Šumava, held here every two years during the 1970s and 80s.

The Paštika family

The Paštika family

A significant change took place in 2009, when the Paštika family bought the land, the water reservoir and the restaurant in the lower part of Vodník. Over the following years, wooden piers were built here, along with paved stone areas, a car park, a playground and other amenities. In 2016, part of the swimming-pool building was renovated into a new restaurant with a modern kitchen extension.

In 2023, construction of the hall and hotel adjoining the restaurant was completed, sensitively placed within the Křesánov valley in an effort to preserve the genius loci of the site.
